Bhubaneswar: Bringing glory and fame to the field of Chess, 9-year-old girl Arushi Srichandan of the SR Chess Centre became the champion in the girls section by scoring 6.5 points out of 7 points in the Odisha State (U-11) Open and Girls Chess Championship, 2018. A total of seven rounds of match were held.
Arushi is a Class-IV student of Chandrasekharpur DAV School here. In the seven rounds of match, Arushi won in six rounds and one round registered draw.
The three-day match, organised by the Puri District Chess Association, was held at the Bhakta Nivas in Puri district. It concluded on June 10.
Arushi will represent the State in the forthcoming National U-11 Chess Championships schedule to be held at Chennai in the end of July.
Notably, Arushi has been playing chess in the State as well as in national level. She has participated in many national chess contests including the Commonwealth game. She will also participate in Asian School Chess Championship at Sri Lanka, which will be held on July 7. She will participate in the Commonwealth game this year.
Anishka Pandey stood in second position in the Under -11 Girls Chess Championship.
