Bargarh: Rita Sahu, the BJD candidate emerged victorious by a huge margin of 41, 933 votes in the Bijepur by-pollson Wednesday.

“The credit for my winning in the by-poll goes to Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik,” said Rita Sahu while expressing her happiness over the results of the by-election.

“I would also like to thank the people of Bijepur who votes for me. My husband’s (Subal Sahu) and CM popularity helped me win the polls,” added Sahu.

While the BJP candidate Sahu emerged winner by receiving 1, 02, 871 votes, BJP’s Ashok Panigrahi stood at second with 60, 938 and Congress merely got 10, 274 votes.

The counting of votes that were casted by the people of Bijepur constituency on February 24 began at 8 am today. As many as 14 tables were set up, where the counting of votes were done in 21 rounds.

Around 72 per cent voters turned out to exercise their franchise during the by-election on February 24 in as many as 281 polling booths.
