Bhubaneswar: Bring a new twist in the suicide case of Taniya Banerjee, her parents have alleged involvement of a fellow student, who happens to be the daughter of an IAS officer in the death of their daughter.

On the other hand Taniya’s father Tikal Banerjee said that they were not satisfied with the progress in the probe. He questioned that why have school authorities not yet interrogated.

He further stated that if needed they would approach the Crime Branch to investigate the case.

Taniya’s maternal uncle and advocate Mousami Kumar Chakraboty  said that police have only  registered a case under Section 306 and have sat idle without finding the people responsible for Taniya’s suicide.

Notably, Capital police had recorded the statement of parents of Taniya Banerjee under section 161 CrPC.

Earlier, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi yesterday informed that the post-mortem report DSBM student Taniya Banerjee revealed that she died of ‘suffocation due to hanging’.

On November 28, Taniya Banerjee, an undergraduate student of the DSBM, was found hanging in her hostel room.

Reportedly, Taniya’s parents have alleged that she was forced to take the extreme steps due to ragging, as she couldn’t tolerate the mental pressure meted out to her by seniors.

On the other, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said, the police investigation is proceeding in an effective manner and assured that those found guilty would be punished according to law.
