New Delhi: Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani today said that gender justice is part of India’s cultural discourse and it needs to be reinforced.

Speaking at Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, the Union Minister spoke at length about the participation of women scientists in India’s missile and space programmes.

The Union Minister also drew the attention towards participation of women in India’s struggle for independence. She said that women today are performing duties alongside their male counterparts in different locations across the country.

She stressed need for on maintaining gender parity in all aspects of society and informed that girls are outperforming boys in every competitive examination.

In reply to a question on the fate of law to provide for 33% representation to women in Parliament and State legislatures, the Textiles Minister said the Government is in favour of passage of the law. The Minister said that her party always supported the women’s reservation bill.
