Bhubaneswar: Saina Salonika bagged two team gold medals in the under-16 girl category in the Asian Youth Standard Chess Championship and Asian Youth Rapid Chess Championship held at Chiangmai of Thailand between April 1 and 9.
Saina with six points, Sanjana Raghunath with 4.5 points and Tejaswi M with 4 points fetched team gold medal for India surpassing Vietnam in the Asian Youth Rapid Chess Championship. Vietnam got the team silver medal.
Likewise, Saina with 6.5 points along with Makhija Ashna with 6.5 points and Sanskrit Goal with five points won the team gold medal in the Asian Youth Standard Chess Championship in the Under 16 girl category.
However, she missed medal in the Standard Chess event by a whisker with 6.5 points and finished 4th.
Saina, a Class-X student of the KIIT International School here, also got the National Child Award for exceptional achievements from the President of India in 2014.
