Bhubaneswar: In what could be a major boost for the women aspiring to be live commentators on television channels, Namrata Chaddha -on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra- went on commenting live for the Doordarshan recently.
Chaddha, a noted social activist and a popular face on the regional TV shows, commented live for more than 12 hours on the detailed rituals of the Rath Yatra.
“I feel really proud for being the only woman commentator in the Doordarshan team,” says an elated Chaddha who is also a lawyer by profession.
The official team of the Doordarshan -assigned to air the nitty-gritties of the world famous Rath Yatra live- was comprised of all other male technicians.
“As the chariot of Goddess Subhadra began to roll, I narrated on the pivotal role of women during the Yatra,” she adds.
Apart from narrating on the rich and vibrant Jagannath culture, Chaddha, during her commentary, threw more light on the role of Goddess Lakshmi during the grand festival.
Unlike yesteryears commentary, this year the narration won everyone’s heart as it not only had the ritual details but also the interesting pegs pertaining to various social causes linked to the famous festival.
“During the commentary, I also spoke on the importance of Mahari dance form,” says Chaddha.
On Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra visit the Gundicha Temple on their respective chariots pulled by ocean of devotees and enjoy their sojourn at their aunt’s place. After spending nine days there, the Lords return to the Sri Mandir on Bahuda Yatra.
