New Delhi:  A total of Rs 1 crore has been allocated during 2018-19 for the welfare transgenders, informed Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has introduced a Bill titled “The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016″ in the Lok Sabha on August 2, 2016, having the provisions of recognition of identity of transgender person, prohibition against discrimination, welfare measures by government, obligation of establishments and other persons, educational, social security and health of transgender person and National Council for transgender persons.

The Bill was referred to the Lok Sabha Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment for examination and report. The Committee submitted its report on July 21, 2017. The report was examined by the Ministry and accordingly the necessary amendments were done in the Bill.  Now the Bill has been passed by the Lok Sabha on December 17, 2018.

A total of Rs 1 crore has been allocated during 2018-19 under the Scheme for Transgender Persons, informed the Minister.
