Bhubaneswar: The State is celebrating Saraswati Puja with people particularly students offering special prayers to the Goddess and visiting temples on Sunday.

Various puja committees have erected massive pandals and idols signifying innovative themes. Glittering decorations on roads and by-lanes, educational institutes, rows of fairy lights, and an infectious religious fervour captivated the devotees.

Saraswati Puja is a spectacular festival, which is celebrated in the honour of Lord Saraswati, also known as Bidyadatri. Colourfully decorated Idols of the Goddess have been installed both at homes and in schools, colleges and other educational institutes.

Devotional songs, dances and drum beats are being played to make the festival more lively and enthusiastic. Special cultural programmes have also been arranged in educational institutes to mark the day.

Early in the morning, devotees thronged temples to offer prayers to the Goddess on this auspicious day.

Students of Utkal University also arranged special puja inside the campus to mark the day.
