Bhubaneswar: Capital police recorded the statement of parents of Taniya Banerjee, the DAV School of Business Management (DSBM) student who had committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling in her hostel room here.

According to reports, Keya Banerjee, Taniya’s mother and her father recorded their statement at the Capital police station under section 161 CrPC.

Notably, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi yesterday informed that the post-mortem report DSBM student Taniya Banerjee revealed that she died of ‘suffocation due to hanging’.

On November 28, Taniya Banerjee, an undergraduate student of the DSBM, was found hanging in her hostel room.

Reportedly, Taniya’s parents have alleged that she was forced to take the extreme steps due to ragging, as she couldn’t tolerate the mental pressure meted out to her by seniors.

Her mother alleged that Taniya had called her on November 27 over phone and shared with her about harassment of the juniors and seniors, how they have falsely accused Taniya of stealing their cosmetics products.

The Commissionerate Police has registered a case in the incident under Section 306 of IPC and a five member team is probing the case.
