Kandhamal: Mother of three, Nirupama Kanhara former teacher at Luisingh Upper Primary School under Phiringia block in Kandhamal district is earning her livelihood by working as a daily wage labourer.

She lost her job for the reason which poses a big question for many and critical for the district administration. It was on June 28, 2017 when Archhita Sahoo, a Class-I student suddenly fell ill and was immediately admitted to a nearby government hospital where she breathed her last.

This incident was squarely blamed this tribal lady teacher Nirupama. The deceased’s father gave an acknowledgement in writing stating that no one is responsible for his daughter’s death, as she was a sickle cell patient and she died while under treatment.

Despite this, she was held responsible and dismissed. Along with Nirupama, the headmaster was also suspended. However, the headmaster was reinstated after few months by the administration but it remained merciless towards Nirupama.

Working as a daily labourer to feed her family and three children, a passion for teaching seems alive with Nirupama. She is still teaching children of her village whenever she gets leisure time from her daily waging and household chores.

Nirupama still hopes that the administration will reconsider her case and reinstate her one day.
